About Us
At A.K.K.A., we hold to firm principles:
FIRST: that control and rule within the martial arts rests with those who have dedicated their lives to the study and teaching of the arts in their most complete and correct form. It is self-evident that people fear what they do not understand. Fear and ignorance inevitably lead to irrational actions such as the use of brute force. When you replace ignorance with understanding, you create confidence and the ability to build from a solid foundation.
SECOND: that as new and competent practitioners arise within the ranks of the martial arts, in particular, Chinese Kenpo, their experience and counsel shall be added to the overall plan of A.K.K.A. Karate USA.
THIRD: that the constant and energetic practice of these arts is of noteworthy and lasting physical and mental value, and can be a life-long pursuit.
AKKA is a highly motivated, success-minded and goal-orientated professional Karate organization that is totally committed to the students enrolled in its academies. It extends to students all the benefits Karate has to offer through a systematized, charted, belt-goal oriented system.
We extend our hand in friendship to those who uphold these principles and invite them to share the responsibility of preserving our historic right to self-defense and individual dignity.
AKKA-KarateUSA/Westport has been offering training in Chinese Kenpo Karate in the same location since 1970. The school was initially part of the Traco International System under Tomas Connor. After the passing of Master Connor, we fully integrated our training practices with those of AKKA-KarateUSA, the karate organization founded by Master Bill Packer, Master Connor's senior student and lineage bearer. From there Westport was run one of Bill Packers senior students, Richard Gibbins. Mr. Gibbins instructed at the Westport dojo on a continual basis since 1976; first as a junior instructor and as Head Instructor from 1982 to 2006. Now as the Organizational Head Mr. Gibbins still finds a way to come through the dojo to teach a class or two. Currently Westport is lead by Head Instructors Andrea Jonson and Chris Hutchings.
